Yemen Noor Foundation for education and relief (YENOF), previously known as YERO, is a non-governmental organisation that was established in April 2003. It was first set up to ensure access to education for children who drop out of school due to poverty. The organisation aims to return these children to education, by enrolling them in schools, after academic and behavioural preparation, and following up on their progress.
In 2007, YENOF launched a parallel programme to help the children’s parents achieve self- sufficiency through mothers being included in sewing and embroidery workshops and interest free loans. This was developed to help parents add to the family's income hence allowing them to keep their children at school rather than working to support their families. Since, the programme has grown considerably to become of economic importance as well as social and cultural impact with workshops raising awareness of Yemen's rich and diverse embroidery and needle work heritage.
The organisation focuses on families as the core of society. In 2023 the number of families benefiting from the services and programmes of the organisation is 350 families and 550 children. The organisation is keen to contribute to building civilized, educated, and self- sufficient communities.
Our pupils and families benefit from several programmes as outlined in our main three fields of activity.
YENOF is considered a highly important and valuable NGO which operates at both local and international levels. The organisation has obtained many certificates of appreciation, both locally and internationally. In 2013 the organisation’s founder, Nouria Nagi, was awarded the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her charitable work with Yemeni children and women.
Since the start of the organisation hundreds of students re-joined the education system after being deprived of it.
Over the years we have had many university graduates in various fields including marketing, accounting, computing & programming, physician assistants, nursing and pharmacy. Many are now in active employment.
We also have a great number of students who are proficient in the art of painting.
Thanks to our free annual training courses (every six months) in the field of sewing and embroidery which started in 2013, hundreds of women are now working in the field of sewing and embroidery.
Throughout the years, the spirit of collective cooperation among the trainees and the organisation’s employees as ensured its great development now encompassing education, improving livelihoods and cultural heritage.
